Masks reduce the notifications you receive and the number of video events that appear on your timeline by ignoring areas that cause false alarms. You can manage your masks from the Device page in your settings.
All Canary devices support Masking though you’ll need to be on the following firmware and mobile versions in order to enable the experience.
Device Type | Firmware Version | iOS or Android App Version |
Canary Pro | 1.4.5 or higher | 2.5.0 or higher |
Canary Flex | 3.1.0 or higher | 2.14.0 or higher |
Canary View | 2.1.0 or higher | 2.11.0 or higher |
To set up a mask, follow these steps: |
1. Open the Canary App 2. Tap the three lines in the top right 3. Tap Devices |
![]() |
4. Tap on the name of the device. |

6. Drag the edges of the mask until it is the desired size and position. |

Important: Masking pulls an image from the last recorded video event on your timeline to preview your masks. If you see 'image unavailable' you may not have a recent enough thumbnail image from your Canary for Masking to use.
Note: Be sure to keep your Canary still after you have applied a mask. Changing the placement of your device will change the placement of your mask as well. We recommend reviewing your masks any time you have to move your Canary, and especially when moving your Canary Flex for charging purposes.
If you see your Canary device is running on a firmware version lower than what is required, please send an email to support@canary.is that includes the serial number for the Canary device that needs to be updated. Your Canary’s serial number is located on the bottom of the device.
