Wireless interference can cause problems when setting up your Canary and prevent features like Watch Live from working as expected. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are two different kinds of wireless technology, but they are vulnerable to some of the same sources of interference.
If your Canary is experiencing connection problems due to wireless interference, we recommend trying some of the following to resolve the problem:
- Reposition Canary away from other wireless devices and appliances
- Remove any barriers reducing signal strength
- Try Ethernet as an alternative (Canary Pro)
Other Electronic Devices
There is a wide range of electronic devices and appliances that emit wireless signals of their own, which can interfere with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Some examples are:
- Cordless phones
- Other wireless devices (e.g. Bluetooth speakers, wireless headsets)
- Microwave ovens
- Satellite dishes
- Unshielded cables
Physical Barriers
Check for physical barriers between your router and your device, such as building materials that are known to interrupt or weaken Wi-Fi signals.
The following materials are known to block wireless signals to varying degrees:
- Metal
- Plaster
- Concrete
- Brick
- Bulletproof glass
For example, if your Canary is positioned on a shelf made of metal, the material may block or reduce Canary’s ability to access the internet via Wi-Fi, while materials such as wood create less interference.
Solutions
Reposition Wireless Devices
Try moving Canary closer to your router, or move other electronic devices away from your Canary device.
Reduce static noise
Changing the Wi-Fi channel on your network can help reduce static noise in a quiet room, interference and improve your WI-Fi signal. Switch to a dedicated 2.4 GHz network to resolve this and try changing the Wi-Fi to broadcast on a lesser used channel. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are the most frequently used for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Connect to Ethernet (Canary Pro)
If solving for the interference and removing barriers doesn’t resolve the issue, try Ethernet. Ethernet connections are typically more stable and faster. They also aren’t vulnerable to the same sources of interference as Wi-Fi.
