What is Canary Membership?
Canary Membership is a delivery of our pledge to provide you with security as an end-to-end service. For starters, Membership offers extended video history and unlimited downloads. From there, we’ve built in first-of-its-kind services and benefits that underscore our commitment to keeping you and your home covered, particularly in the case of an unexpected event.
What comes with Canary Membership?
Canary Membership extends your security with 30 days of video history, unlimited downloads, and unlimited bookmarks. US subscribers also benefit from Incident Support, Extended Device Warranty, and Home Deductible Reimbursement of your homeowners or renters insurance deductible up to $1,000.
Is Membership available in countries other than the US?
Yes. Canary Membership is available to users who live outside the US and includes 30 days of recorded video history plus unlimited downloads and no data caps. Home Deductible Reimbursement, Incident Support, and Extended Device Warranty are only available in the US.
How much does Membership cost?
Canary customers will receive the full privileges of Membership for $9.99/month or $99.00/year (two free months) for one device, and $14.99/month or $149/year for 2-3 devices. Additional devices can be added for $4.99 per month per device or $49 per year per device.
Do I need to purchase a Canary Membership subscription for my device to function?
We’re still offering everyday security right out of the box, and we’re increasing video history in your timeline to 24 hours which can be shared by up to four devices. Like Membership, we’re also removing all bookmarking and exporting restrictions to give you unlimited downloads and data in addition to social sharing.
How do I purchase Canary Membership?
To activate Membership, you must first receive your Canary devices, download the Canary app, and complete the device setup process.Once all devices are online, follow these steps to activate Canary Membership:
- Open the Canary app
- Navigate to Menu > Settings > Membership
- Click Add Membership Now
- Provide your credit card information, and click Apply
- Complete checkout by clicking Upgrade.
If I have more than one device at a location that is on the free plan, do I still get 24 hours of video history?
Yes, but the 24 hours of video history are distributed on an equal basis across all devices up to 4: 1 device = 24 hours of video history, 2 devices = 12 hours of video history across all devices, 3 devices = 8 hours of video history across all devices, 4 devices = 6 hours of video history across all devices.
How does Home Deductible Reimbursement work?
In the event your home is burglarized, or you experience other covered loss, and you receive a claim payment from your home insurance provider net of your deductible, contact the Home Deductible Administrator at 1-800-711-4280 within 90 days of the loss to commence your claim.
Home Deductible Reimbursement is underwritten by American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida. Home Deductible Reimbursement coverage applies to the membership address provided at the time of the membership purchase. This coverage is not available to NY, TX and NH residents. What is Incident Support?
In the event of a qualifying incident, we’ll provide you with a dedicated agent to help retrieve video evidence and assist through a home theft event.
How does Extended Device Warranty work?
All Canary devices come with a one-year limited warranty. As part of Canary Membership, all devices at the location under Membership will receive a two-year limited warranty from the original date of purchase. To qualify, devices need to be purchased directly from Canary or an authorized reseller. For more information, visit canary.is/legal.
What happens if I already had a plan?
Existing annual and monthly plan subscribers were automatically enrolled in Canary Membership when it launched in October 2016.
Your pricing structure may have changed depending on your plan and the number of Canary devices at that location. If you were an existing plan subscriber, you should have received a separate email before Membership launched with specific details about how this affected you. What if I have multiple devices?
Membership applies to each device at a specific location, but the price will vary according to the number of devices you have at that location.

Is there a limit to how many Canary devices I can have in a single location?
If you are enrolled in Canary Membership, there is no limit to the amount of devices you can have in a single location. If you are enrolled in the included free plan, the 24-hour video history is shared by up to 4 devices.
Why are plans changing?
When we evaluated the competitive landscape, it became clear that the industry standard of paid tiered storage options falls short when it comes to adding significant value to the service we offer our customers. Transitioning to a per-device pricing model enables us to continue offering the most competitive paid subscription and included free option in the industry while dramatically increasing the offerings of both our included service and paid Membership.
What is the device waiver?
We’re currently planning to upgrade Canary plan holders to Membership this October, and have built in transitional benefits that ensure that our customers are getting the best deal possible.
All Canary customers who are signed up for our annual Membership plan by November 18, 2016 will receive a Device Waiver which eliminates an up-charge for additional device purchases for one year.
