The data you authorize to share with your insurance provider is secure and includes your name, address, how you engage with your home and the Canary app, HomeHealth sensor data, and certain device and location settings. If you choose to opt in, data will be shared directly with your insurance provider once per month. Video and audio will never be shared.
How it works
Sharing data with your insurance provider is completely optional and does not affect your eligibility for an insurance discount.
You may be eligible for an insurance discount simply for using Canary. Sharing your data is not required. Learn more about insurance savings and check your eligibility.
Your data will not affect your insurance premium in a negative way.
Your insurance provider will not use your data as a means to increase your premium.
What will my data be used for?
Insurance is getting smarter and you can help make it more accurate and affordable by sharing your information directly with your insurance provider. Specifically, it will be used for research, analysis, and offerings. In some cases, you may be eligible to receive additional discounts for sharing data. We’ll notify you if exclusive savings or other offers are available as a result of sharing your data with your insurance provider.
If you change your mind, you can stop sharing at any time.
If you have chosen to share data with your insurance provider, you can stop at any time through the Insurance menu in Location Settings.
Which data is shared?
|Data shared||How your insurance provider uses this data|
Your address is used to identify your insurance policy. Location characteristics such as Auto Mode Settings and number of Location Members are used to understand how your Canary device is used.
|Canary Owner||Your name is used to identify your insurance policy. Your Canary account status is used to understand when you began using your Canary device.|
|Your device connection state, settings, and software version are used to understand how your Canary device is used.|
|Sensor readings (temperature, humidity, and air quality) and alert frequency are used to understand how your location's environment changes over time and how you interact with your Canary device through the Canary app.|
